Station announcements

Does Irish Rail ever plan to have proper automated announcements in stations. The existing system voiced by Michael Colwyn - seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=subDvB3LPSA has not be made available in many stations. The system is only available in Connolly, Heuston, Pearse, Tara Street in Dublin. Kent, Middleton and Carrigtwohill in Cork. Athenry, Craughwell, Ardrahan and Gort on the WRC.

Refer in Portugal arguably has the best automated Rail PA system in Europe and Irish Rail could learn from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORngSY34x0U Almost every station has a standardised announcement system installed. Announcements for stopping trains, departing trains, delays, express trains passing all voiced by the same person and use a standardised announcement chime.

I believe every station has PA speakers installed here in Ireland. I know many stations have 'Please stand back behind the yellow line - train now approaching' announcements yet these make no reference to which platform the train is passing or if the train is calling at the station. If the train is serving the station it should not play this announcement, instead it should say where the train is going and where it serves and if they train is not stopping it should say which platform it will pass.

We have a very small network this could easily be rolled out across the majority of stations.

Isn't it just a case they haven't bothered linking them up to Central Control, you are right that the majority of stations have PA systems fitted but are not used.

I think they are connected it just unused. They are able to play the official delayment announcements fine. http://youtu.be/tFHUJk1afps?t=10s
