Disruption to 07:00 Westport - Dublin
There was a truck blocking part of the levelcrossing at 105 1/2 mile mark outside Castlerea today. It passed the white stop line and the barrier came down behind the cab preventing it from moving. The train was stopped for about 30mins while they talked to the driver.
The Ballina train was about 5 mins late into Manulla Junction due to a delay at another levelcrossing. On arriving into Heuston we were told the now 40mins delay was due to Signalling problems at Castlerea, Clara and Tullamore, where there were other delays. Also one of the Galway services was effected as we passed it between Tullamore & Portarlington. |
Just a pity you where not a hour late as 'signalling problems' are fully with IE's control and you are entitled to a refund
Driver of truck should get the book thrown at him in the district court |

All signalling rooms have emergency generators for this exact contingency and they can be remotely started from Dublin even with the power off
The latest signalling rooms have full UPS and do the switch themselves |
well that didn't seem to happen this morning. The 07:10 Dublin-Galway got to Geashill at about 8:05 this morning, stopped at a red signal, restarted after a short while and crawled into Tullamore.
Does Tullamore have UPS and how long does the backup supply last? Some parts of Tullamore still didn't have power back by 4pm. |
Well if the power cuts, Dublin gets an indication and the supervisor should then start the emergency generator remotely
Should have enough fuel for at least a day if not more Needless to say the generators regularly don't start when needed, thats IE's fault a power cut is not an unexpected situation |
