19:00 22/09/07 - Intercom failed - horrible noise for hours!
I was on the 19:00 Dublin - Cork service on 22/09/07, the intercom system seemed to fail producing the most painfully annoying feedback sound for about 2 hours. I actually thought I was going to go completely insane and contemplated getting off at one of the intermediate stops to escape the noise.
No one did anything about it!!! Are CIE doing CIA torture tests on paying passengers now? or what?! |
Where was the train host?
Sounds like yet another dodgy piece of equipment from CAF Of course the scary thing we found out yesterday is the Mk4 train management system runs Microsoft Windows |
In hiding I think - no where to be found. It was unusually lacking a train host. None of the recent cork-dublin / dublin-cork trips I have taken have been quite as unsupervised. It felt like the 'old days'.
The restaurant guy tried to do something, but couldn't figure it out. Sounded to me more like they'd turned the volume up way too loud and one of the mics / phone handsets was off the hook somewhere. It's human error I'd say rather than equipment being dodgy. They never ever get the PAs right. They turn the volume up ridiculously loud in almost all instances. The PAs on the MK3s work fine too when used correctly! They were usually so quiet you couldn't hear anything or deafeningly loud with screeching feedback. The PA should be set and no one really should need to tweak the levels. It's ridiculous. |
Well there has to be a host, simply can't operate without one
First thing would be to check all the pa handsets, there being one per coach behind the magic glass door in the wall, there is one in the locomotive as well Train host is either hiding in first, they like to hide in the second last bay of seats before the first class toilet, otherwise the last 4 bay of seats in coach G. Failing that when you hit Thurles odds are its the guy in the suit with his head out the door of the first class coach having a quick cigarette (yes hello you on the 17:30 ex Cork on Friday) |
A lot worse than the baby Mark and I heard laughing over the PA on Friday. Wonder how many H&S and internal rules were broke by having a baby in the guards van during a journey?
|
Well it gets worse the train in question left Cork at 14:30 and was delayed en route due to, yes you guessed it "ongoing problems with the PA system."
