NTA approved fare zones
Can anyone let me know if Rail Users Ireland is one of the groups who the NTA consult about fare zones ?
Does anyone know if the NTA have plans to change the city centre zone to include Grand Canal Dock & Lansdowne. Getting a daily return ticket from Donabate to Pearse costs €5.80 but then jumps by €3.40 to €9.20 for the extra stop to Grand Canal or Lansdowne. With the same ticket I could then go to any stop on the Short Hop zone, all the way to Bray if I wanted  It's a crazy increase in fare for what are city centre stops for thousands of people every day  The crazy thing is that if Lansdowne & Grand Canal were brought into the city centre zones and the fares adjusted to a reasonable level then the level of fare evasion would drop and Irish Rail probably wouldn't be at a nett loss for the change !! |
Its €7.25 return Donabate to Grand Canal Dock, €3.30 single on leap card
There is no €9.20 fare, but there is a €9.60 one which applies to Donabate to Lansdowne Road It is likely that Lansdowne Road would remain outside any city centre zone if one was provided |

The NTA are inclined to revise fares where they see anomalies, but that will see some fares rise as well as some falling. You can see the fares here: http://www.railusers.ie/passenger_in...atrix_2013.php |
