Next train due electronic signs

Noticed this morning in Hazelhatch that the electronic signs on the platform which indicate what train is due next are not real time...they seem to be running off the timetable.

For example there is a train due at 6.58 then 7.17 then 7.22

At 6.59 the 6.58 train is taken off the sign (even though it hadnt arrived yet!)

To me this is a bit of an expensive waste of money ..if they are just going to show the timetable...why not have it in the new ticket office only?

Hopefully it will be made realtime as part of the Kildare Route Project, but yes you are right that at the moment it can be misleading, especially as journeys are padded at the end

I would imagine these are still in the testing phase, given they were only turned on in the last couple of weeks.

That "real time" pis system is a pile of junk! Also in operation at phoenix park station i have yet to see this system update the times to reflect the delays even at heuston the next service just disappears when the time is up

i live in hope that the maynooth line pis system will be the pis system used on the dart network and some of the drogheda line

Only arrived in the last 2 weeks or so

To be fair even just displaying the timetable and the correct time is a massive improvement on nothing, the Maynooth line people would love to see that

The signaling system will be replaced by end 2009 early 2010 which should bring about a massive improvement and should mean every station Heuston - Hazelhatch will have properly working signs. The existing system has 3 layers of junk added on and bits hacked on written in ancient stuff like cobol

It took ages to get the DART signs working correctly, we had the joy of Dún Laoghaire displays thinking they where in Pearse for a while.

But mark its only the correct time if the train is on time. The times dont update to reflect delays.

Why cant this be brought in on the maynooth line seen as though this pis system is not a "live" system but just showing the timetable in that form?

Its better than nothing at all, the stopping pattern from Hazelhatch can be very confusing

The clock on the Maynooth line ones, the one in Coolmine is off by up to an hour is a problem, displaying the correct time is helpful

Option a is to hack up some rather unreliable solutions which would only be useful for 10-12 months even then it can only see a train departing Heuston when its somewhere past Clondalkin. The system can't see a train departing Cork, train vanishes at Limerick Junc, probably goes missing outside Portlaoise and again at Portarlington even when it can see a train its guess work with several minutes variance

or

Option b focus on the long term and make it work flawlessly with the new system

The electronic signs at Hazelhatch show 18:54 Portlaoise even though that service is going to Thurles.

I particularly like the way the signs at heuston can say:
Quote:

On Time
even when it obvious that the train is going to be late:D

hey any news whether or not Greystones will ever get its' real time information boards working sometime soon? I think we've had them close to ten years now and they've been doing nothing...
