[Letter] Iarnród Éireann bike policy

Irish Times, 28.04.2006

Madam, - May I clarify Iarnród Éireann's position on the carriage of bicycles on Intercity services (Letters, April 22nd)?

We continue to carry bicycles on the vast majority of Intercity trains. The only Intercity routes on which, temporarily, we do not carry bicycles are the Sligo-Dublin, Rosslare-Dublin and Cork-Tralee routes, as the carriages in use on these routes do not currently have such facilities. However, all new Intercity trains on order, including those entering service from 2007 which will operate these routes, are designed to be able to carry bicycles. - Yours, etc,

BARRY KENNY, Manager, Corporate Communications, Iarnród Éireann, Dublin 1.

Strangely the trains used between Cork and Tralee actually have bike racks

They need them the Ring of Kerry would be the no.1 draw for cycling holidays in the country

Again there is a little distortion going on here. He makes no mention of when there will be bicycles on the routes in question, only that some new trains will have provision for them.
