17.25 Connolly to Gorey
 

This train was late again last night. Lately it has been getting to the stage where you are pleasantly surprised if it is actually on time!

From last Thursday to this Thursday it has been late 3 or 4 times in the evening. I am seriously considering whether to stop using this train. It's no joke to rush from work in the evening to the station only to find that you have to stand around waiting for the late train.

I was on the 17.25 last night. On asking why the train was late I was told the train was delayed at Wicklow on its inbound service. The cause was a child had ran away from home the train was searched and the child was taken off the train. It then lost its slot out of Bray.

Morgase, Believe me I know what you mean. I have considered driving but the traffic out of Dublin at that hour. I arrived back in Gorey one evening after leaving Dublin at 19:35 and I left at 17:15. MARK - This one is for you, The current timetable stands at 17:05(DART),17:14(DART),17:25(GOREY),17:29(DART) now the 17:05 arrives in Bray 17:52 thats fine. The 17:14 DART that arrvives at Dun Laoghaire 17:41 and arrives Dalkey 17:49 now the Gorey train arrives Dun Laoghaire at 17:48 now why cant the DART travel between Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey slowly that will give the Gorey time to travel on the wrong track from Dun Laoghaire to Dalkey and cut in the right track and travel to Bray arriving Bray at 18:00. The 17:35 Bray/Longford arrives Dalkey at 17:45 at that stage the Gorey train will be travelling on the wrong track to Dalkey and if the Longford commuter was 17:45 instead of 17:35 and put the DART 17:50 instead of 17:40 then when Longford Commuter stops at Dalkey the Gorey train would have passed and followed by the DART train.. It will save the Gorey train in around 10minutes. It takes from Wicklow to Rathdrum 13mins knock off 1minute and Rathdrum to Arklow knock off 3mins it does not take 18minutes and Arklow to Gorey knock off2mins. Arriving Gorey at 19:05 saving 15mins. Would it work?

I would to see the Rosslare Route times reduced by at least 20/25mins. I think after Bray the Rosslare/Gorey services crawl along to Connolly and vis-a-versa. Is there no way the times from Bray to Connoly could get reduced even 10mins.

This was late yet again yesterday. I checked the Irish Rail website before I left work and there were "no travel alerts". When I arrived the station 10 minutes later the train was shown to be 25 minutes late.

What is the point of a travel alerts section if it is never updated?

How many times has the Gorey Service been late. 25mins is alot was there any good reason given by the platform announcements Morgase?

It's always the same Pierce, there is an announcement that there are operational problems or something to that effect.

It was on time last night, joy of joys, so I am expecting it to be late the rest of the week as that is the usual story!

i used to hate hearing the excuse of "due to the late arrival of an incoming train at" it was heard alot but even though it seems to occur alot more with say for example 17.25 delayed because of it arriving late at maynooth, the excuse we seem to hear these days is "operational problems" :confused: now that announcement i cant stand

Sorry for jumping on you both, But what time do you arrive at your station. If the train arrives 25mins late does the train catch up for lost time or does it arrive over the 25mins?

If the gorey train is late do they not send DARTs (that are on time) ahead of them affecting the path of the gorey train and the time it takes and restricts the possabilty of it making up time.

yes, but they have been known to pull the Dart in between Pearse and GCD and let the Gorey train past (its rare, but it happened 2 weeks ago - I was on the Dart and wasn't particularly happy about it).

I only go as far as Greystones but I suspect there is scope for the train to make up time between there and Gorey.

But am just wondering though there is a DART to Greystones around 17:40. If that was to go ahead of the Gorey train, is there a siding at Greystones for the DART to park or does the Gorey train have to wait at Bray until the DART returns from the single track area in greystones?

If it is badly late it normally follows the Greystones train out, Greystones has two platforms and a siding so both trains can be there at the same time. There is enough of a gap so that the train after the Greystones one isn't delayed by the Gorey train

Signalling thankfully allows two trains travelling in the same direction around Bray head so the two trains arrive Greystones one after the other

On rare occasions you can get pulled over at Grand Canal Dock to allow the train through but that normally is reserved for the evening train to Rosslare

That clears it up, thanks Mark. I haven't been out in Greystones in a very long time we are talking about ten to fifteen years and it was a sunday and I had just missed a Dublin bound train and there were only three trains, if any on the sunday heading each way. Think it was single track at the station that time.

It often makes up time between Greystones and Gorey. Not the full 25 minutes mind you.

How late does a train have to be before passangers are entitled to a refund?
