Irish Rail's advice for Connolly passengers heading to Bloom
 
I had to laugh when I read this off their website

No mention of ashtown station that is 10 minutes from the site. Instead take a bus that is nonexistant over the weekend.

It would be a lot handier if the Luas wasn't shut down.

Only in Ireland would they shut down the primary transport link between the two halves of the capital city's rail network for 2 months with hardly a whimper from anyone. Instead everyone just throws up their hands and says, oh it's a hard job and that must be how long it takes if that's what they said they need.

Ashtown isn't such a great option on a Sunday from a frequency perspective.

Although when enabled, technically the Phoenix park tunnel won't connect Heuston and Connolly.

This would be pretty simple but isn't planned. Am I seeing a pattern here?

Also, there was a Green Party plan floating about to turn the bus garage into a bus terminus for western and south western inter-city buses which would integrate quite nicely. Now I see the problem - integration is a nasty word in Irish transport infrastructure.

Have you looked at the clearance to get to/from Conyngham Road? There isn't space for direct access either side of the tracks.

It is very tight - it would require a pretty major bit of engineering to build a concourse over the two tracks and provide access to platforms.

Well perhaps you can tell us when IS a good time to do this work?

There is never a good time to carry out major engineering works that requires extended closures.

Someone will always be put out.

Incidentally several of Munich's tramlines are currently closed in the city centre for three months due to major engineering works.
