Passengers stuck on train for two hours after break-down in Co Mayo

As usual, IE poor at telling the passengers what's going on:

"One passenger on board told RTÉ News that communication about what was happening was very poor.

"Irish Rail spokesperson Jane Cregan said that while some announcements were made, the driver was outside of the cab attempting to rectify the problem for most of the time the train was stopped and this may have contributed to the small number of announcements made."

Where are the CSO's we were promised?

I see that the RTE link in the first post also mentioned that passengers on the 1799 Heuston-Cork got a surprise when the train failed to stop at Mallow. Given that all down trains are scheduled to call at Mallow, this is truly amazing

Is the breakdown comment fair? Granted there have been a few issues lately.

One passenger contracted RTE so I don't think you can judge the level of communication and there wasn't a major communication issue reported on social media. There will always be one or two who want a constant announcement and moan for no reason. If you ask me it was the communication for the 17.45 was a bigger issue.

CSO to date are generally a waste of money. Limited visibility, repeating the automated PA, not checking tickets. I don’t for a minute think communication would be better in this case.
