[28/06-01/07/2012] Irish Open

Is there going to be any specials for the Irish Open Golf event in Portrush? Or is it just Rugby, Football and Eucharistic Conferences get specials?

Many specials are operated under financial deals with the organisations involved to off load the financial risk, so many are never listed publicly

Irish Rail own no trains certified beyond Belfast Central so can't run a special anyway

NIR are running specials from GVS and Central, pity there wasn't a service even to that length from this side to meet those specials.

Not a good idea. No wifi on the trains to allow golfers stranded by yet another "security incident" at Lurgan to follow the action.

There is nothing to stop the operation of a special train from Dublin to Portrush with a C3K

For details of the specials from Belfast see

That timetable makes me think NIR are maxing out just on the Belfast specials and running 6 car sets on scheduled services. I guess there's only so many trains you can run out that way (and they don't have all the C4Ks in commission yet either). In theory they could have sent a special via Knockmore branch as they have done for MRSI etc but I guess it was more hassle than it was worth.
