Luas Red Line Service Information
Thursday March 22nd, Friday March 23rd, Saturday March 24th 2012

Dublin City Council continues to work on the fire damaged buildings on Benburb Street, Dublin 7, adjacent to Red Line Luas tracks.

The buildings are structurally unstable and the Council say it will take a few days more to make the area safe.

Therefore a normal Luas service will not resume tonight, tomorrow Friday March 23rd or Saturday March 24th, indeed it may not be back until Sunday afternoon March 25th 2012.

The next update on progress from Dublin City Council is 2pm Saturday March 24th. Luas will update everyone post this meeting.

For the council to work safely and to ensure the general public’s safety the overhead power lines are turned off and a safety cordon is in place.

This means the Luas service is only able to operate until further notice as follows:

Red Line Service:

Tallaght/ Saggart Stops to Heuston Stop only. There is no tram service from Heuston to the City Centre.

Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of this service disruption.

Luas passengers are therefore advised to leave extra time to travel.

In response to a frequently asked question to Luas Customer Care:

Q: Why does Luas not operate between Smithfield Stop, past the affected area and The Point Stop?
A: Luas trams are not permitted at this stage of the works to travel through the safety cordon and thereby start service at Smithfield.

Passengers please note the No. 1 priority of Luas is to operate a safe tram system. We are working to resume service as quickly as possible and will do so immediately when we are informed it is safe to do so.

To everyone affected by this service disruption please accept our sincere apologies.

Passengers are advised to check the Luas website for updates and to listen for media updates including AA Roadwatch bulletins.

Luas Green Line is operating as normal.

Kind Regards,
Luas Customer Care
