The most obvious way to justify more stations and higher speed would be if a potentially profitable short spur was built to serve Shannon Airport and town from somewhere such as Cratloe. The line could be rebranded as the Shannon Airport Link, or perhaps 'LASER' (Limerick and Shannon/Ennis Railway)
