A fire at an oil depot in Co Kilkenny is causing traffic delays and is affecting rail services in the area.

The blaze was discovered just before midday on the Kilmacow to Waterford Road.

Emergency services are at the scene and gardaí are appealing to motorists to avoid the area.

Visibility is severely affected on the M9 Dublin to Waterford Road and it's closed southbound at the J11 Mullinavat junction.

Diversions are in place and people can return to the motorway at Junction 12 Grannagh.

Irish Rail services between Dublin and Waterford are only running as far as Kilkenny until tomorrow because of the proximity of the fire to the line.

A bus transfer is in operation between Kilkenny and Waterford.

A fire at an oil depot in Co Kilkenny is causing traffic delays and affecting rail services in the area.

The blaze was discovered just before midday on the Kilmacow to Waterford Road.

Fire halts Waterford-Kilkenny trains

Train services between Waterford and Kilkenny have been disrupted following a fire close to the line yesterday.

Iarnród Éireann said bus transfers were in place today after it was advised by the fire authorities to close its services on a section of the line.

The fire was reported at a fuel depot at Mullinavat yesterday morning.

Part of the old N9 Waterford-Kilkenny road also remains closed.
