Default Return booking with different start and end points

Is it possible to book online a return journey with a different initial starting point to final return leg finishing point. I know now that booking fees are gone it doesn't make much difference but I want the ticket on the one booking for expenses reasons.

Nope, not currently possible

Given Irish Rail's fare structures unlikely it would save money. The booking office tickets already allow for this under the valid on adjacent routes rule

Have you looked at booking one ticket online but board at different stations. Eg book return Waterford-Dublin but board in Kilkenny outbound, provided online fares are the same from either station?

I don't think that is within IE's rules.

I have saw IE say its allowed on twitter. Once they are not losing money because of it.
