Man killed after being struck by Luas tram in Dublin

A man has been killed after being struck by a Luas tram in Dublin. The collision yesterday evening involved the inbound tram at Steeven’s Lane, near Heuston station. The man, aged 35, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the city morgue. The incident took place at about 4.40pm.

The Luas red line services were suspended for more than three hours between Blackhorse and the city centre.

All Luas employees were saddened by the death, said a spokesman for Luas operator, Veolia. Gardaí and Veolia are carrying out separate investigations into the collision. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses.

This is the second death involving the Luas since it began operating in 2004.
