Indeed.

Although I said it may have been more desirable to keep it open, there is no argument for the investment to reopen it.

When you look at the cost of reopening Cobh Junction-Midleton, which was a comparatively recently closed line (last previous service 1988), it's clear that it can very rarely be justified.

Fair enough for a line like Rosslare-Waterford where the track is effectively in place. And for a large population centre like Navan, it should be kept in mind. Those are the exceptions, not the rule.

TBH Many of the old lines were so poorly built, you'd be better off building on a new route.
