1455 Bray - Malahide. Displaying "Howth" on the front (the 1441 had departed with "Malahide" on the front) and the PIS read "Destination: Malahide Next Stop: Bray" all the way into town. Fantastic.

1750 Pearse -- Dundalk

PIS got confused near Drogheda and started claiming that it was approaching Dundalk. Strangely, the Irish version stayed right and Robodude didn't announce the wrong station.

Default 7:30 PM 20/08/06 - From Cork to Heuston

The announcments on this MK3 operated service were unusually good. They were made by a lady with an English accent who spoke slowly, clearly and understandably. She provided even provided information about bus connections, car park locations, taxi rank locations etc when we arrived at Heuston.

The announcements from the dining car on the other hand were not great. The guy kept blowing into the microphone and the there was a terrible buzzing noise over the speech like something was short circuiting / grounding in the mic itself.

Certain IE staff seem to feel that they need to blow into or tap the mic everytime they use it. It sound absolutely aweful.

Today's train stopped at Geashill (about half way between Tullamore and Portarlington) to let the forrestry train by.

Over the PA there was an announcement for Portarlington. He then must have realised his mistake, and announced "We are now approaching Portarlington, in about 10 minutes." Then he said it again a little while later.

Bizarre. Could he have been having a little snooze and did he wake up when the train started stopping? It was a "slam door" drain so I wonder did anyone hop out on the bit of old platform thinking that Portarlington was getting a bit run down.

08:20 Drogheda-Connolly Enterprise

Coming into Connoly, the automatic announcement said, "We will shortly be arriving in Dundalk..."

Unusually, there was no manual announcement to correct it. Usually the train manager will make an announcement telling passengers about connections to Heuston and times ofn return trains to Belfast.
