Default New Timetable

Online anyways...it shows some relatively significant (if trains ran on time) changes
06.36 and 06.56 from coolmine leave 2 minutes later (which is what happends anyways)
07.38 from coolmine leaves at 07.33
07.54 from coolmine leaves at 07.50
08.07 at 08.05
09.23 leaves at 09.08 (Result!! Another train to get me in before 10 am )


Coming back....not much change except my cursory examination would indicate the last train is at 21.55??

What of people traveling from Maynooth line stations onwards?

Maynooth is the commuter boundary - all Sligo trains should stop there

You can book to Sligo, you can't to Maynooth intercity travellers are not at a disadvantage

Actually, the MTA Metro North, which serves New York City and its Northern suburbs, applies a system of restrictions to stops in the Bronx for long distance suburban trains.

I may start another thread to explain it properly but suffice to say, it works well there are could work well here for places like Maynooth, Bray/Greystones.

Maybe they did this with the aim of cancelling the 17.15 west of maynooth in future.

In that case a maynooth connection would be needed for those heading west.

Default Docklands

Just noticed that the 08.45 docklands train has been removed from the new timetable.
Whilst this train wasn't exactly running at a full load, it did take significant pressure off the 08.40 maynooth connolly.
The 08.40 is 4 cars long, and is usually quite packed in the mornings.
Forcing the 100 + odd people who used the docklands train onto it will mean the train is over capacity.
This will force people over to the next train which is clonsilla - connolly at 09.05.

This is hardly the best use of resources, and will mean people arriving to their destination later.
Does anyone know whether the 08.40 be run as an 8 car service ?

5.45 Longford to Pearse

Where will this train be parked the night before.

If it comes out from Dublin I can see this service become unreliable.

Also...this isnt a new service either...its just the 06.43 from enfield extended backwards. Will mean this service will be a fair bit fuller when it serves the inner commuter stops. Currently this is standing room only at coolmine.

I get it from maynooth.

Seats are to be got at Coolmine but you need to go down the train a bit. None at the front half.

Firstly, let me qualify this next statement a bit:
I havent got this train regularily since september...but I was getting it a fair bit then.
And when I did, I got on the last carriage. Most days bar fridays, and the odd thursday there was standing room only.
Maybe its 5,6 that have the seats.
Anyways...I say it will still make it less comfy....not to mention a pain in the arse for anyone commuting from longford to have to stop at each and every station on the way in.

Default Where is this train coming from?

If this early train from Longford means they keep the 1805 from Connolly in Longford overnight that will an excellent addition. Before they extended the early train from Longford back to Sligo, they used to keep two trains in Longford overnight, so I can't see why the shouldn't do this.

The 1905 gets stuck in Mullingar for at least 10 minutes every evening waiting for the 1805 returning empty from Longford so that would help enormously.

It could also mean a couple of extra cars for the 1805 which would also be a big help.

I can't see very many takers for the new early service but it is better than runing it up empty the night before. The earliest Longford service seems to be very lightly used at the moment.

It means one fewer train from Longford to Dublin in the evenings which will reduce delays on other services

Previously the Enfield service at come empty from Dublin, now it runs in service from Longford, saving an empty train movement and also a empty train from Longford to Dublin. Irish Rail aren't doing this for passengers, it actually saves them a pile of money

Default Early train from Longford

I am glad to see the new 5:45am train from Longford. It is a pity it does not leave 15 minutes earlier as it would be a great help for the workers in the leixlip plant as it would give an alternative to the car. Maybe in a year or two they will extend the 6:38 from Maynooth back to Longford. Looking at the new timetable the 5:45 ex Longford and the 6:58 from Maynooth will be pretty much following one another into Connolly maybe this needs to be reviewed

The new 5:45 from Longford is the same train as the 6:58 from Maynooth and replaces the 6:43 from Enfield

Early morning Sligo train late as usual today and delaying other trains – the new timetable made things worse actually.
5.45 from Sligo should be passing Coolmine around 8.22 – it was there at 8.42 today (it is scheduled to stop in Drumcondra at 8.38 btw).
As a result 8.17 from Maynooth was in Coolmine at 8.52 (scheduled: 8.37) and in Connolly at 9.21 (instead of 9.03). The additional delay came from two stops past Drumcondra: one next to Croke Park and the usual (but very annoying) around Nth Strand Rd. (it stops there every single day!)
The only ‘improvement’ is that the Sligo train did not delay the 8.26 from Clonsilla as it used to do.
Two trains approx. 20 minutes late one morning – not a great debut for the new timetable.
