Usual chaos, very little in terms of accurate information - delays of anything up to an hour. If there is no possibility of installing adequate drainage then perhaps Irish Rail should consider pre-emptively closing the line south of Dun Laoghaire when heavy rain is forecast - at least there would be some chance of maintaining the remainder of the service.

The flooding is a result of mainly of overflow from local roads taking the easiest path via the railway which is basically carved out of granite so nowhere for the water to go

The drainage on the railway has improved significantly much less standing water than previous

Perhaps the water could be persuaded to drain towards the sea which is somewhat lower than the railway.

Deepest part yesterday seemed to be under the tunnel on the southside of the station, just where the branch line to the Carlisle Pier used to be. Surely a few (more) drainage holes can be made?

Perhaps Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council could be pursuaded to contribute a few € given that the town hall is only a couple of hundred yards from the problem, and they allegedly have money to spend. The problem probably delayed some of their workers getting home!

Per Irish Rail Website 17/10/12 0645

"Due to Flooding at Sandycove DARTs are operating between Greystones -Dalkey and Dun Laoghaire - Howth/Malahide"

Dublin Bus to the rescue yet again !

IR are advising that diesel operated services are not affected at present, although this situation could well change.
