My new Annual Rail, Bus and Dart card has stopped working after barely two weeks of use. It's the old style magnetic strip ones and is giving a Turn Card Over / Wrong Side Up / Stupid Design reading.

You can get it exchanged on the spot at Pearse station or at the taxsaver office on Amiens Street. There's also probably an exchange form you can fill in at your local station and they'll send out a new ticket within a couple of weeks.

On a few occasions, my point to point annual ticket has failed in the automatic gates only to be restored by the reader on the Dublin bus.

The first time I thought it was fluke. The second time it was a brand new ticket, chanced it on the bus and it has worked fine since. Generally I'm not that lucky ao there might be something in it...

Might be worth a try if you use the bus?

The ticket works fine on Dublin Bus machines so I will try it again at my train station. Thanks for information posted here though.

Every time the ticket is read the mag stripe is rewritten

As always if you can avoid the turnstiles and flash the ticket at the checker at the staffed gate

Any idea what the delay is? It was meant to be starting months ago. At this rate, the initial trial of the ITS card will come only a few months after the introduction of the IR card.

The IE system is very much more advanced than the Luas or DB system. Auto top ups from your bank account, refunds are made directly to the card. Web interface to your account which is merged with your existing IE booking account. Also smartcards will be available from the TVM's to buy. There is a serious set of revisions to the TVM software (we have 40+ issues raised) which should include

1) Numerous fixes to standard tickets
2) Smart-card functionality
3) Reservation collection
4) Chip and Pin

An interim release is out (the one with the missing letters) which issues child tickets

Several stations (Seapoint, Rush and Lusk, Greystones & Bray) have had serious work done which meant no validators. Also as part of our involvement in the initial testing a list of concerns and issues was sent to IE one of which would have required some extra equipment being installed another may have required a rethink of programming for one location.

I have held an IE epurse smartcard in my hand
