Default New bike racks on intercity rail cars

Not sure if this is known about or if there's interest, but here's the new bike racks on the intercity railcars. They are currently on the 22k set that runs from Dublin-Kildare.

Looks like they have sacrificed one luggage rack and one set of seats.

Tis set 16, coach 22316

Together with our colleagues representing cyclists in Dublin, Mayo and Galway have lobbied Irish Rail (with the support of various other business and tourism interests) to restore the carriage of bikes on intercity services in line with the standards in Europe.

We as a combined group have met with Iarnrod Eireann. A full joint statement will be issued once Iarnrod Eireann confirm details on a number of commitments. It goes a lot further than just the new bike rack, there are other aspects as well, particularly in information.

More details will be posted in the website in due course.

For the record, this is something we have been working for several months, http://www.railusers.ie/news/news.ph...2008&no=5.html indeed it goes back to the first public showing of the new fleet in Waterford the year before

Should have fleet complete by Dec.

Existing cupboard might be used for parcels, so fastrack is still in business it appears.

Since there isn't a thumbsup button as on boards.ie I'll just say well done RUI.

The possible use of former cupboard space for Fastrack does not arise as the ONLY thing that affects the carriage of parcels is the lack of guards on trains. No guards NO Fastrack or, indeed, internal IE mail, weekly circulars, Rail Brief etc.
