That is usually my train but lucky for me I am off this week.

I doubt this cold snap will make the public transport companies think about ways of areas of this mess not happen again.

I understand buses can't go some areas to to health and safety but trains shouldn't be effected that much

My reports are that Maynooth line passengers are being told that there is no point waiting for trains and to go and use Dublin Bus services instead. 66 and 67A services are running normally, although 25A is curtailed.

I waited in vain for the 810 (ex Connolly 0800?) from Drumcondra this morning - it never came after DELAY appeared on information displays. I checked their twitter page and advised us to "make alternative arrangements, Dublin Bus accepting rail tkts". As I walked down the platform, display said 7 minutes. All inbound trains on the way were stopped at stations. Truly bizzare announcement of "it would be speculation when the next train will reach Connolly" at Drumcondra station.

Happy new year Irish Rail.

Default Maynooth services resume

Quote:
4th January 2010, UPDATE 09.20hrs

Maynooth-Dublin trains have resumed operation, but remain severely delayed, following a mechanical fault on this morning's 0545 Longford-Dublin service, near Broombridge.

Iarnród Éireann apologises for the inconvenience caused.
I pity anyone who had to get out at Droichead na Scuab.

Train actually failed blocking Reilly's level crossing just before Broombridge, so no getting out.

Yet another reason to get rid of the level crossing...

There was complete chaos in Maynooth this morning. Basically, it was everyone off the train and no plan what to do with them.

Having been there and done that before, I knew where to go for the bus and luckily made it onto the first bus, but there were hundreds of people behind me and no crowd control of any description.

We were delayed for a while while two unfortunate Bus Eireann drivers going to Sligo and Ballina had to convince the crowd that they were not going to turn around and go back into town for them.

Kudos to the Dublin Bus driver on the 67A who handled the crowd authoritatively and courteously and then took the motorway on his own inititiative. By my estimation we were quicker than a stopping train would have been.

Would the lateness of some of the trains today qualify for a refunded ticket?

Yes, anyone on a train that arrived at their destination more than an hour late is entitled to 50% rebate of their single fare in travel vouchers. More than two hours late and it's 100% of the single fare.

5:45 Longford Dublin
7:15 Maynooth Dublin
8:00 Maynooth Bray if travelling beyond Pearse (it was cancelled there)

All qualify for the 50%

the 8:00 Maynooth Bray was put out of service at Clonsilla. Or so, thats what Clonsilla announced, that the train was out of service.

Given that the 0615 from Longford arrived into Maynooth about 50 minutes and terminted there, what does that count for? Surely if it didn't make it to Connolly at all and passengers were left to fend for themselves regarding buses, they are entitled to 100%.

I don't know what happened to the 0545 from Sligo as it was effectively replaced for anyone after Longford by the 0615 from Longford.
