Default Official appointed to get public’s view on LUAS extension

Old news from breakingnews.ie I read yesterday that Dublin bus were to get 20 new buses. These include the one I was on last week.

The extension of the Luas service to the Point Theatre in Dublin has moved a step closer this morning following the appointment of an official to get the public's view on the initiative.

Transport Minister Martin Cullen said he had appointed James Connolly as an independent inspector to oversee consultations with the public on the proposed expansion of the Red Line from Connolly Station to the Point.

The plan to extend the LUAS into the docklands is part of the Government's ambitious Transport 21 programme, which was launched in November.

The Rail Procurement Agency has estimated that the move would add two million passengers to the LUAS network every year.

Yippee won't give us his /her name though which makes it fairly useless information as the Minster is legally required to do this

The Connolly Point section is not a transport 21 project, nor is Sandyford Cherrywood, Kildare route project, Spencer Dock station, those 20 replacement buses, Midleton line in Cork or the new intercity trains

A TOP lawyer has been appointed by the Government to hold a public inquiry into the extension of the Luas from Dublin city centre to the Point Theatre.

James Connolly SC was appointed to head up the inquiry into the Docklands Luas extension, which will mean an end of the foot slog for thousands of music fans along the northside quays to the Point Depot.

But not everyone is singing the line's praises as some companies in the IFSC have complained about the disruption during construction.

Mr Connolly will hold the inquiry early in the new year. The timescale for the public inquiry and the subsequent report is a matter for the independent inspector, said Transport Minister Martin Cullen yesterday.

The new extension of the Red (Tallaght) Luas Line will run 1.5km from Connolly Station, through the Docklands to the Point.

It is predicted the Docklands Luas will add almost 2m passengers to the Luas network and remove 1m trips from the roads.

The new line will also cater for an expected 50pc growth in employment and 100pc increase in the population of the rapidly developing north docks area.
