Why is the Green Line getting an increased service? It gets 2 extra services this weekend, and the Red Line has to wait until next week. Both of them are in one direction only. The whole schedule is a far cry from the full service provided for several weeks in the early years of the tram service.

In Vienna and other main European cities, Metros run 24hours every weekend in both directions. That's a proper service, and should be standard procedure in Dublin also. The three night 5-tram service each year on the Red Line is laughable by comparison.

I can only assume that they think they'll get more Green Line customers.

Late night Luas services begin

CHARLIE TAYLOR and PAUL GALLAGHER

The festive season is nearly upon us and Luas is gearing up for it with the introduction of its late night Christmas services this evening.

Starting from tonight green line services will run until 3.30am this evening and tomorrow. Late night red line services do not begin until next weekend and will run until 3am.

In addition to extra services this weekend, late night Luas will also operate next weekend and on New Year's Eve.

Tickets for the late night services cost €4 from ticket machines and €3.80 for smartcard holders.

Security personnel will be on every late night Luas service to ensure revellers get home safely.

That can't be the reason, as the Red Line is right in the city centre, with the burger bars, nightclubs, Temple Bar all in close proximity, which are most of the passengers. The Green Line at night has well, little.

However, both lines should be in 24h operation every weekend, and it's an issue I've brought to the attention of the RPA when the managers are around.
