Iarnród Éireann together with Bus Éireann are providing a greener route to this years national ploughing Championships in Cardenton, near Athy Co. Kildare.

The ploughing championships will take place from Tuesday 20th September to Thursday 22nd September 2011.

Special promotional day return fares are available from Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Ennis, Galway, Westport, Dublin and Waterford which includes bus transfers direct to the ploughing championship in Cardenton.

Customers are reminded that the return time shown on the train ticket is the departure time of the train. Bus transfer times of approx 45 minutes should be allowed for connections to Portarlington, 40 minutes to Kildare and 20 minutes to Athy station.

1. Index to Traffic Routes and parking.
1.1 Purple Route – Traffic from Kildare, Wicklow, north Wexford and north Carlow.


Travel on the M9 to the Kilcullen exit, take the R418 (old N78) towards Athy. At Russellstown X turn right and proceed through Geraldine X roads, Clogorrow X, turn right at Sailsbury then through Bert Cross to parking in the vicinity of Cuan Mhuire.

Parking

It is proposed to park vehicles at Purple Car Parks.


1.2 Orange Route – Traffic from Dublin, Kildare, and northern counties via Dublin.

Travel on the N7/M7 as far as Exit 14 (Monasterevin exit). Proceed to Monasterevin left at Texaco and proceed on R417 (Athy Rd) through Kildangan and Kilberry and onto to parking at Bert. ( Purple Car park will be filled before Orange opens)

Parking

It is proposed to park vehicles at Purple and Orange Car Park.


1.3 Green Route – Traffic from Tullamore, and western counties.

Travel to Tullamore and take the N80 to Mountmellick. Proceed to Emo on the R422 and on to Vicarstown via L3930. Proceed to Bawn hill and Moatstown to parking.

Parking

It is proposed to park vehicles at Green Car Park.


1.4 Brown Route – Traffic from Limerick, and south western counties.

Travel Northbound on the M7 Exiting the motorway at Exit 16. Proceed on the R425 turning on to the N80 for Stradbally. On the outskirts of Stradbally take R427 for Vicarstown. At Garrans X right on L7939 to Mill Land on to R428 main Athy Rd to Castlemitchell X, turn left to Churchtown and on to parking in the Brown Car Park.

Parking

It is proposed to park vehicles at Brown Car Parks.


1.5 Blue Route – Traffic from Cork, and southern counties.

Travel on the M8 to exit 4 follow for Durrow and through Abbeyleix turning right for Ballyroan R425 for Stradbally. Proceed to Money X turning right to Timahoe (R426). In Timahoe left (L3838) to Stradbally. In Stradbally turn right at Court Sq. on to N80 for Carlow. At Hacketts X left to Ballintubbert (L3953). Proceed to Brockagh left to Castlemitchell. At Castlemitchell right to parking.

Parking.

It is proposed to park vehicles at Blue Car Parks.


1.6 Grey Route – Traffic from Kilkenny, and southern counties.

Travel from Kilkenny to Castlecomer on the N78 to Crettyard and direct to Athy via Newtown X, Simmons Mills X and Ballylinan. Before Athy take the left turn to Goulyduff and Kilcross X to parking in the Grey and Yellow Car Parks.

Parking.

It is proposed to park vehicles at Grey and Yellow Car Parks.


1.7 Yellow Route – Traffic from Carlow, and South Eastern counties.

Exit off the M9 Motorway at the Castledermot/ Carlow exit. Proceed to Carlow town. At the Deerpark Rd roundabout continue straight to the Dr Cullan Rd roundabout 2nd exit and travel on N80 Portlaoise Road taking 3rd exit at Ballickmoyler roundabout. Proceed on in the direction of Portlaoise through Ballickmoyler and Arless. Merge with Yellow Route at Simmon’s X.

Parking.

It is proposed to park vehicles at Grey and Yellow Car Parks.


2. Index to One Way Systems/ Parking Restrictions.
2.1 One Way Systems/ Parking restrictions.


Parking restrictions will be in place on all approaches to the to the event site. The restrictions will be in place for set times in the morning and evening of each day of the event.
The following one way systems will be in place for the appointed times:-
• Orange/ Purple Route- Bert X to Purple Car Parks, Cuan Mhuire.
• Green Route – Vicarstown to Curraclone Church (Bawn hill) to Castlereban South and on to Green Car Parks.
• Brown Route – Castlemitchell X to Milltown Brown parking.
• Blue Route – Hackett’s X, Ballintubbert to Castlemitchell X.
• There will be no through road from Woodstock Street to Stradbally via Cardington (Site). Access will only be given to emergency services.

There will be no illegal parking allowed on William Street, Duke Street and Leinster Street, Athy, Co. Kildare.


3. Index to Bus Parking and Bus/ Train Transfers.
3.1 Bus parking.


There are 3 designated bus parking areas for use by large 52 seater buses.
•Buses travelling on Routes Purple & Orange will park at Cluain mhuire on the L8068.
•Buses travelling on Route Green, Brown & Blue will park at Foxes R428. Buses travelling on route Green will turn right at Curraclone Church ( Bawn Hill) merging with Route Brown (Stradbally /Athy Rd) and then at Castlemitchell merge with Blue route and park in Blue Bus Park (Fox’s).
•Buses travelling on Routes Yellow & Grey will park in the Woodstock Industrial Estate, Kilkenny Rd, Athy, Co. Kildare


3.2 Bus transfers – Bus Eireann.

Park and Ride

NPA will provide bus transfers between Cluain Mhuire and the Park and Ride at the orange Car Parks. The route is as follows:-
•Buses pick up passengers from the park and ride at the side of Orange car park near Bert Bridge where a turning circle has been constructed. They will exit and travel to Cuan Mhuire over Bert Bridge and travel straight to the drop off point. Buses will enter Cuan Mhuire via the side gate and allow passengers to alight. Buses will be turned and exit via the same gate. Pedestrians will be channelled to exit via the main gate and enter the site using the pedestrian bridge. (This will only open if Purple Car Parks reach capacity)


3.3 Regular Bus Services from Clonmel/ Kilkenny – N78.

Regular bus services operated by Bus Eireann from the Kilkenny and Clonmel areas travel through Athy via the N78. There will be a drop off point at the Woodstock Industrial Est., on the Kilkenny Road where patrons can gain access to the event.
A timetable of all services will be available through Bus Eireann.


3.4 Train station transfers.

Athy Station.
Bus Eireann will be providing a bus transfer service from Athy train station from early morning each day of the event. There are appointed times for drop offs and pick ups both in the morning and in the evening and www.Buseireann.ie or www.irishrail.ie should be consulted for these times.

Kildare Station.
Bus Eireann will be providing a bus transfer service from Kildare station to the site. The service starts from early morning from Kildare with the return service starting in the afternoon. For travel times consult www.buseireann.ie or www.irishrail.ie.

Portarlington Station.
Bus Eireann will be providing a bus transfer service from Portarlington station to the site. The service starts from early morning from Portarlington with the return service starting in the afternoon. For travel times consult www.buseireann.ie or www.irishrail.ie .


4. Index to Exhibitor/Competitor parking.
4.1 Exhibitor Parking

•Exhibitor car parks are located at Purple, Brown and Blue . They can be entered from Routes Purple, Brown, Orange, Blue, Yellow, Green and Grey.
•Exhibitors travelling to the site on Route’s Purple and Orange will be allowed travel as per route Purple and on to the canal bridge turning right on to the Stradbally Rd and entering exhibitor parking at Blue Car Park.
•Exhibitors travelling on Routes Green will turn right at Curraclone Church ( Bawn Hill) merging with Route Brown and then at Castlemitchell merge with Blue route and park in Blue Exhibitor Car Park.
•Exhibitors travelling on Route Brown will merge at Castlemitchell with Route Blue and continue and park in Blue Exhibitor Car Park.
•Exhibitors travelling on Route Blue will park in Blue Exhibitor Car Park.
•Exhibitors travelling on Routes Yellow & Grey will turn left at Simmon’s Mill X follow to Hackett's X on the N80 turning right to merge with Route Blue and park in Blue Car Park.(Weather permitting Exhibitors will be allowed travel on the Grey and Yellow to Athy on the N78 where Blue Exhibitor parking will be accessed from the Yellow route).

Exhibitors are requested to be on site before 8.30am each morning.


4.2 Competitor Parking

Persons involved in the Sheep Dog trials will access the site via Brown Route where parking will be provided for at Blue/Brown Car Parks.
Persons involved in the Hunter chase will access the site via Route Blue and enter the competition area via entrance opposite the gate to car park 4A ( Blue).

5.1 Disability Parking


Persons in possession of valid passes issued by the Irish wheelchair association will be allow park in the allocated disabled parking car parks. The Following car parks are available.
•Routes Purple & OrangeTraffic is to follow the same routes as per normal traffic to Cuan Mhuire. It will be allowed to continue on to the canal bridge and turn right towards the site. They will be parked in/ near exhibition/ event area.
•Routes GreenTraffic is to follow the same routes as per normal traffic. At the turn for Green car park this traffic will be allowed to travel over Milltown Bridge and right towards Cuan Mhuire. It will merge with Purple route. It will be allowed to continue on to the canal bridge and turn right towards the site. They will be parked at the event /exhibition area.
•Routes Brown & Blue Brown route traffic is to follow the same routes as per normal traffic. At Castlemitchell this traffic will be allowed merge with traffic on route Blue and continue to parking at Blue Car Park.
•Routes Yellow &Grey Traffic travelling on Routes Yellow & Grey will turn left at Simmon’s Mill X follow to Hackett’s X on the N80 turning right to merge with Route Blue and park in Blue Car Parks.


6. Index to Taxi placement.
6.1 Location and placement of Taxi’s


Taxis will be facilitated near the site on Woodstock Street, Athy in the vicinity of the Ballintubbert Road opposite the Hospital. They will be allowed to pick up and drop off at this location and no other. The temporary rank will be strictly monitored by Gardai and any breach of regulations will be enforced. It will be operated on a first come first served basis. The parking of taxis will be in single file.
