Brian May and Roger Taylor decide to plumb the depths:

May excited by new Queen material
Monday, January 22 2007, 09:51 GMT

By David Cribb

Brian May has admitted he is excited by Queen's new material, and can't wait to begin touring again.

Guitarist May and original drummer Roger Taylor have been in the studio recording new tracks, with former Free singer Paul Rodgers taking the vocal duties.

“We went into the studio to see what happens, because we’ve already tested it on stage and that works great," he said. "And we went in almost unprepared and came up with some tracks, which I think are really great."

He added that the new material has given the band a chance to try new things, with the results being quite a departure from the traditional Queen sound: “They’re very different, they’re unlike anything that we’ve done before, or anything Paul’s done.”

Now May is raring to start touring again, with the band expected to take to the road again in May: “It’s gonna be good, because next time we go out, we won’t just be nostalgia, we will be ‘This is show we are.’”

Right, so why dont you call the band something else then?

Note that John Deacon is having nothing to do with this travesty.

John Deacon didn't even have anything to do with it when they got the new singer just for concerts.

I loved Queen and couldn't have taken the 'tribute' concert that included the lad from Free. Saw Brian May in his solo hat years ago and wasn't impressed.

It's like Stewart Copeland reforming The Police with Donny Tourette on lead vocals or something. 50% or more of the band absent = not the band. Missing the most important member = not the band.

We'll have The Beatles back after Macca's €50m divorce settlement yet....

PS: And the Queen musical makes me shiver, in a bad way. Sell-outs.

100% correct, even I didnt go to that concert.

And just to sicken you, "We will Rock You" is the musical, written by uber-wiener Ben Elton.

Meh thats not too bad, at least its not my course. 15 Sarah's and 4 of them in my tutuorial group, if you cant remember a name, your safe calling them Sarah.

Back to Queen, even i am in awe of their legend, even if i was probably about 8 or something or even younger when freddie died

But many a band have tried to go on without their frontman, unless the rest are as big, it just doesnt work. Thats why Guns n Roses still try to do things and have had many side projects together.

No. No. No. No. No. please. G'n'R's brilliance resides with the original combination. Anything the deluded axl has done since can just be discounted as solo axl. Slash is probably bigger. Alot of the sound was him. Velvet revolver should be taken seriously.

And it appears the pockets of The Police were feeling a little empty so they've staged a 'it will never happen, ever' re-union. (Apart from that time they played together at someone's wedding).

I'm delighted, I love them, but it may lead to Sting talking - which (and I direct this at Bono too) - he should stick to the music.

The original Duran Duran line up sold out the point depot in 2004, (after a Brit award, MTV award and NME award) and released an album that November which went on to sell 2.5 million copies. They were the highest grossing non-american live act in the U.S. in 2005. Stuart Copelands brother is now their manager. Fancy that. Another album due out this year.

Its easy money when your band members are still alive.
