Default Transport 21 progress report

Hi

just saw this on the Transport 21 site, the Annual "Progress" report for 2006.

http://host2.equinox.ie/transport21/...ess%202006.pdf

Interesting reading in parts, claims that the electrification of the Maynooth line should be complete by 2010 (on page 21 in Interconnector Rail Tunnel section) and Midelton line by end 2008.

Many statements in the report are in fact false, the DART upgrade project for instance isn't finished and won't be for at least 2 years

The tender for the Maynooth line DART fleet was issued in July 2006 so its nothing new

How come so early? How long does the tender process take? How come they are putting out tender for new fleet? Would the current stock not be adequate

They need additional stock for the electrification of the Maynooth line.

Would the Dunboyne spur be built electrified at this point?

Nope. Its diesel operated. Post Interconnector Dunboyne services would presumedly operate into Connolly/Pearse. Initially and until 2015 or so they will operate to Docklands. Between 2010 and 2015, we can only presume that Maynooth services will be electrified, but operate as the currently do. If that interconnector doesn't happen, we're gonna be left with one right mess.

That's mad. Would it not make more financial sense to built it electric from the word go? I know long-term thinking isn't probably the order of the day in the Department or in IÉ, but surely it's cheaper to do one project rather than two?

Actually forget my last post.

The T21 dates don't seem to match. Its claiming that Maynooth line will be electrified by 2010 along with Pace. So we can presume Pace is a DART line from day one?
