Default 2+1 and the Atlantic Road Corridor

A very off-topic question, but I was looking at Fred Barry of the NRA's presentation to the Chamber of commerce and I was wondering, which bits of the Atlantic Road Corridor will be 2+1?

I have to admit I think 2+1's are great -- was at a wedding in Sweden last year and they're the perfect compromise of safety and footprint, especially with our land acquisition costs

He said they hadnt decided yet, it'll be interesting to see how the new stretches get on such as the Clontribet N2.

i thought all of the atlantic corridor would be 2+1. Its a great solution if built to the proper standards.

Some parts of the ARC (certainly the Charleville bypass) will be full dual-carriageways.

Having driven on 2+1s here I am unconvinced. If you get stuck behind a slow truck or tractor on one of the single-carriageway bits, there is no possibility of passing and I certainly wouldn't like to see a failure on one.

On the parts with passing lanes, you see most cars accelerate to 130+ kph because they want to get past all slow moving vehicles when they still can.

its still safer that single carriageway. You would be unfortunate to be stuck behind an agricultural vehicle for 2km though
