Its slowly getting there as a proper across the board system.

Inclusion of Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday marks a big step. The whole goal behind the discounts to get people who are traveling at 4,5,6,7pm to travel earlier or later on lightly loaded services thus releasing some capacity at peak hours

There is a 46.50 fare available day return Cork Dublin on the 9:30am service as well most days

That's an interesting development.

But, if I'm reading it right, it would then suggest that no surcharge applies if one travels on another promotional service on the same day instead of the one booked?!

...except on the Dublin-Tralee route!

By the way, how come the Sligo route is still excluded from the online-booking system??

Hallelujah! Er, kind of. It seems it's now possible to buy tickets to 'Dublin City Centre' and get the discount, e.g. system quotes €21.30 for Tralee to Dublin City Centre off-peak.

However, it's still not happening in the opposite direction!

Although, at the same time, when traveling off-peak why bother cos the Luas smart-card is still 5c cheaper (€1.25 single instead of the €1.30 add-on)! That don't make sense to me but I guess that's IE. . .

The problem with the add on are known to Irish Rail, it appears they are working on it.

Smart card is all well and good, but it doesn't work on the bus and there is a purchase cost which makes it impractical for for infrequent users

What I'd really like is to be able to buy my Intercity web-fares to/from Clontarf Road, but I guess that'd be expecting way too much. . .

I'm surprised the 19:00 Cork-Dublin on a Friday is included. That's usually a quite busy service.
