AN ENGLISH graphic design student who came to Dublin to spray graffiti on a DART train has been remanded on bail after his father paid €1,000 in compensation on his behalf.
The 17-year-old boy, who is from Newcastle, in England, pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court yesterday to criminally damaging a DART train carriage at Clontarf station on December 16 last.
Gda Ian Kerins told Judge Catherine Murphy that the boy had been caught spraying graffiti on the DART carriage, causing an estimated €1,000 clean-up bill.
The court was told the teenager had no previous convictions. He was accompanied to court by his father, who explained that in the last six months his son's behaviour had improved greatly.
The father explained that he took out a "€1,000 bank loan" to pay for the damage his son caused to the train.
But he also explained that his son worked part-time and would pay him back.
