Default Navan - Media Issues

Senator David Norris concerned at lack of Navan rail study
Press release: Friday, 1st December 2005

Senator David Norris yesterday (01.12.2005) voiced his concern at the absence of any real planning for the reopening of the Dublin to Navan railway line, and backed Meath on Track's campaign to make the Navan railway line a reality.

Speaking at the Transport 21 debate in the Seanad yesterday, Senator Norris backed calls for an immediate factual study of the Navan rail project, saying that there seemed to be "no provision for a detailed examination of the situation, which must be done prior to the commencement of the project". This, he said, caused him great concern.

Referring to the the recent Transport 21 announcements, Senator Norris stated that the Navan railway line is an "ideal project", and that Navan is a town "with a large and increasing number of people who need to get in and out of the greater Dublin area using public transport."

Senator Norris referred to correspondence from the Meath on Track campaign outlining concerns in Meath that funding would not be made available for the outline design scheme next year. Senator David Norris said that without an immediate study of the entire Navan line, that it was his fear that "the people of Meath would be no closer to the reintroduction of rail services than prior to the Transport 21 announcement".
