Iarnród Éireann management to blame for ad hoc timetable alterations

December 15th 2007

Rail Users Ireland once again can reveal the truth behind the numerous "operational problems" effecting services to/from Cork and Westport particularly on Sundays.

This is as a result of Irish Rail management imposing new rosters on drivers without prior agreement. This seems to be routine practice by IE management, it is not the staff at fault, they are simply operating in line with what they have agreed to do and continue to operate the 2007 Sunday timetable. Rail Users Ireland also understands that some services Cork Cobh have been replaced by buses in the past week.

Rail Users Ireland understands that staff in many cases only receive there copy of the internal working timetable after it is available to the public.

IE management have been aware of this issue since before last week and providing less than 24 hours notice in public is insulting to the passenger.

Anyone effected is entitled to full refund as the issue is fully within Iarnród Éireann's control.

UPDATE 27 December 2007: The issue continues in addition services Cork Dublin particularly the 13:30 ex Cork and 18:00 ex Dublin may be cancelled as staff in Cork are not working rest days in protest at various issues which may date back to the Phil Flynn agreement of May 2006.
