Default Road Closure March 27th re Sixmilebridge Railway station works

http://www.irishrail.ie/news_centre/...ew&news_id=487

Roadwork on the R471 at Atterbury Railway bridge by Media & PR

In order to provide a new Train Station in Sixmilebridge Iarnród Éireann will be carrying out works on the R471 at Atterbury Railway bridge that will involve some disruption to road users as indicated below.

Full Road Closure on the R471 at Atterbury Railway bridge in Sixmilebridge from Friday the 27th of March at 11.00am to Monday the 30th March at 4.00pm. This will facilitate the part demolition of the existing bridge and the construction of a new bridge.

Following the works above there will be part road closures on the R471. There will be temporary traffic lights at the Railway bridge on the R471 from the 31st of March to the 12th of April between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm. This will allow Iarnród Éireann to carry out works on the approach roads to the bridge.

Diversionary routes will be signposted and are as follows:

Traffic travelling to Sixmilebridge from Shannon is advised to follow the detour route that will be in operation for the duration of the proposed closure. This detour will be signposted along the L-3177 local road, the R-458 regional road and the R-470 regional road.

Traffic travelling to Shannon from Sixmilebridge is advised to follow the detour route that will be in operation for the duration of the proposed closure. This detour will be signposted along the L-3147 local road, the R-470 regional road, the R-458 regional road and the L-3177 local road.

More information on the project is available by phoning low call no. 1890 656591 or email wrc@irishrail.ie

Iarnród Éireann apologise for any disruption caused due to these necessary works. We would like to thank you for your continued support with this project and look forward to the opening of the Western Rail Corridor to our mutual advantage in the near future.

Will these works in Sixmilebridge on March 27th affect train services to Ennis that weekend?

Exclamation Sixmilebridge Train Station

Hi Folks,

I passed by the "station???" yesterday and it would appear that work has stopped. The platform looks finished along with the bridge works but the parking area has very little done to it.

Does anyone know whats going on?

Regards,

A Local.

Thumbs up Sixmilebridge Train Station

Hi,

I spoke to John Crowe yesterday. He reckons that contractors will be on site in approx 2 weeks to complete the car park.

Regards

So much for the station been ready by last August/September.

Are they going to have Sixmilebridge railway station re-opened by March 30th as it says in the timetables? They have been working on the car park and entrance for the past few weeks but I am not sure if they will have it done on time by the end of the month......

The spur option was deemed unworkable and slow

Shannon was ruled out on cost grounds, the routing via Shannon was required to maintain current journey times to Ennis

600 million was quoted for a new twin track line from the outskirts of Limerick, through Shannon rejoining about 5 miles south of Ennis.

Needless to say it didn't come close even a 1:1 cost benefit analysis

CorkALVIN - if you build a spur, you add massively to travel times. If you build a deviation, even at 75mph line speed, you run into a problem of how the line gets through the airport lands. Look at it in Google Earth and figure out how a diesel train would run in from Shannon Town and out towards Ennis.

The 19:10 from Ennis stopping in Sixmilebridge at 19:27 going to Limerick and onto Limerick Junction never turned up this evening. There was no announcements on the public address system or on the info board. Ended up getting a lift into Limerick with other passengers waiting in the Bridge where we found out the train had hit some cattle between Ennis and Sixmilebridge. Passengers from Ennis were bussed into Limerick. IR could have announced that the train was cancelled and put on a bus to pick passengers in Sixmilebridge (it may have arrived after we left for Limerick). Instead there was zero info. Pretty shoddy.
