The crew at the signalling centre (CTC) have real time location of every train, when things are in the right order its no problem know which train is which the junctions at Portarlington and Cherryville can lead to trains swapping places, gaps between trains can be as low as 5 minutes. You can't read the signalling panel unless you know the train id's

Destination boards are little use inbound, its the stopping pattern and we all know how reliable IE are with them anyway

Staff in Kildare and Newbridge work by either ringing CTC or being rung by CTC. CTC also can make a PA locally. A real time platform display is going to be fitted

There are other issues, calling a train the x:xx from y makes little sense its the 8:01 to Dublin
