Depending on who you talk to, there are many reasons

1. Some trains had the wrong wheel profiles, how they became wrong is the question. We know but legally can't say

2. The flange lubricator which greases the wheels to take the very sharp corner south of Cork station was removed last year

3. It was warm


Whatever the reason it was another one of Irish Rail's great moments of not paying attention to the details.

Its all fun and games at the RSC, the head retired a few months back and the report from the RAIU on Malahide is about to surface.
