SIPTU workers in Irish Rail have voted by 71pc to 29pc to reject proposals from the Labour Relations Commission in relation to changes to their employment.

SIPTU members at Iarnród Éireann are to ballot for strike action after they narrowly rejected a Labour Court recommendation on cost reduction plans at the state rail company.

Given the such narrow rejection realistically a strike is probaly unlikely?

By law how much notice do unions in the Irish Republic have to give of a strike? I just wasted some time on google trying to find the answer without success.

Also in the event of a train not running because of a strike are you entitled to a 100% refund?

7 days notice is required by law

Yes you are entitled to a refund on any ticket sold prior to the strike being announced

Happens in the event of a strike if you are an annual ticket holder, are you entitled to a refund for those days you have to get alternative transport.
