Inconsistent applications of the Leap 90 discount could do with ironing out. Discount is available if travelling between any of Dublin Bus / Luas / Dart to any different mode, and also from Dublin Bus to Dublin Bus.
It's not available when taking a second Luas or second Dart journey within 90 minutes. I'll bet most regular travellers who have heard of the Leap 90 discount wouldn't know that such exclusions would apply from the posters and try explaining the logic of it to tourists. For example if you take a DART from Howth to Connolly and then a suburban train to Ashtown. There is already a discounted fare set for Howth to Ashtown. LUAS has zonal fares which cover a trip from Brides Glen to Saggart and Irish Rail a fares matrix which covers every station pairing. |

The problem is I can do Dun Laoghaire Blackrock, get out, then Blackrock Pearse, it will be charged as two journeys with no discount. If I did same with bus I would get a discount
More realistic example is Clondalkin - Heuston - Connolly - Howth Leap treats Clondalkin Heuston and Connolly Howth as two distinct trips with no discount, but the Luas will show a discount. Brave man to try not tagging out in Heuston and not tagging on in Connolly to see what happens. In theory as you go Irish Rail - Luas and then Luas - Irish Rail it should give you a discount on Connolly Howth but I wouldn't bet on it Cash 4.70 + 1.80 = 6.50 Leap 2.41 + 1.44 + 2.41 Less 2 euro 4.26 But if I walk Heuston - Connolly I would not get the 90 discount 4.82 Leap without tagging off/on HN/CY (as there is a legal fare code within Irish Rail, impossible but need to compare with old through ticketing option) 3.49 +1.44 Less 1 euro 3.93 Fare via Phoenix Park Tunnel 3.49 Anywhere else in the world this would be considered a single journey of X zones regardless of changes made

Has leap epurse been turned on in Cork yet for a soft launch yet?
They're really taking their time launching it. |

If you are feeling lucky try to a trip in Cork today
Not sure if the TVM's will allow top up's but you should be able to tag on/off. That said it is not formally live so your mileage may vary and pay for your ticket if you cannot tag on

Strangely enough I was in Cork yesterday and overhead the end of a conversation between a staff member and passenger. They said it would be soon but he mentioned they had to meet with the NTA again. Not sure if he actually knew anything or was just trying to give the customer an answer.
Why are IE dragging their heels about it, am I right in saying they will lose a lot of revenue because of it or have they been offset by recent fare changes. |

I suggest the customer just try it...
All TVM's in Cork will now allow Leap top. Leap card can be purchased from some of the TVM's in Cobh, Midleton and Cork.

It took Bus Eireann 3 months to publicise it after it was turned on in Cork, so it's no huge surprise. They probably want a soft launch with any issues contained to a small number of people.

Is actually 9.20 return on Leap as there is a 9.20 day cap on Irish Rail Leap fares in Cork
4.65 is the NTA approved fare

Are the cap amounts (daily and weekly if applicable) tied to the irish rail SHZ ones in Dublin? I presume there is a limit in how many different cap balances a leap card can handle |
