Default Ticketing across the network

Probably not a great surprise to those here but this is an interesting post from a blogger (Via Bock the Robber of all people) about being unable to buy a ticket for a trip to Maynooth from Limerick Colbert. Is this true:

"I asked the staff in Maynooth, and was told that Irish Rail have at least three different, separate, not interconnected, ticketing systems."

Maynooth can issue a ticket to Limerick, single, 5 day or monthly return and it will include the luas transfer

It is probably cheaper to buy a ticket to Heuston via Connolly and then one from Heuston as the system doesn't calculate the fare by leg, its by distance only so you can get stung.

Maynooth could issue a ticket to Derry if they wanted, every single ticket machine is programmed exactly the same. I got a single from Limerick Junction to Rosslare in Dun Laoghaire last month.

Possibly down to the staff in Maynooth not knowing (or indeed not bothering to know) how to issue the ticket.
