Yes, the only problem which arises is the sidings off platform 7 are only long enough for a 4 coach set
It would be useful if IE provided actual functional information, given a swap from p4 to p7 is significant it would be nice to know if that will be the case

Can you imagine the fun on matchdays if it was!. It takes 10 minutes to get out of the station (on matchdays) without having to go through that!

Not really an issue with sports specials, which are mostly long distance trains. Boarding and on-train inspections should be enough.

Long distance trains don't serve Drumcondra (except sligo) not even on matchdays only maynooth and Sligo. Half of the time Maynooth line stations aren't even open so tickets have to be bought in Drumcondra!
The exit points at the moment is very restricted only 2 or 3 points and on match days maynooth trains are usually crammed 8 carriage trains. So imagine the holdup that would cause. Last edited by ThomasJ : 29-10-2007 at 21:38. |

Best guess is there is something afoot at West Rd junction, thats the horribly rocky set of points just before a train from Maynooth gets into Connolly with the two tracks diving under the Northern line for the docks
The points there are for want of a better term *******ed and substandard

If thats the case, does this mean that the Midland line will be used instead. Is there anyway of trains getting into connolly not using those tracks?

The Liffey line and Newcomen Curve can be used although the Newcomen Curve is tight and steep and only accesses platform 7 (and maybe 6). |

I discovered the reason for Drumcondra closure while passing through Connolly on a Dart this morning.
The 2 westerly tracks are being replaced from Connolly through to the curve onto the Maynooth line. Thus the trains to/from Maynooth/Sligo etc. are running via the Newcommon curve (thus skipping Drumcondra). I saw a Connolly bound train passing over the small liftable bridge over the canal as the Dart was nearing Connolly. Mystery solved, I think. |

Thought the station was only closed on the sundays and got the 1232 yesterday, "serving all stops" according to the driver announcement then skips Drumcondra, where I was going!

Coming in from Maynooth yesterday evening, person sitting next to me stood up for Drumcondra as we headed down the Midland line at Des Kellys and wasn't too impressed when I told her it was closed, that we weren't even going to pass Drumcondra and there was not point in getting up
Despite the rain train had no problems crawling up the steep hill into platform 7 The CIS of course insisted on Drumcondra

What way did last nights rosslare europort train. Did it run from maynooth running through to platform seven in connolly. Or did it start in connolly. Also how is it working where both inbound and outbound scheduled. Is there any congestion at newcomen.

All trains ran via the curve
Some minor delays but since there is a 4 minute saving by taking the Midland line they even out The 8:55 from Sligo was a Mk2 this morning and ran on to Pearse to turnaround

Everything can climb the hill
Railcar design requirements insist on a 10 car railcar being able to drag another dead 10 car up the steepest incline 29k climbs it with ease even in the rain
