Default Wow! Detailed explanation why service didn't run .........

......... but not from Irish Rail. While this might be a bit much, I think irish Rail could certainly up their game a little.

I wonder if one of Willie O'Dea's crowd missed a bus.

Unofficial industrial action in South-West Region

Unofficial strike action by Bus Éireann Part-time School Bus Drivers in Limerick disrupted the operation of some public and school transport services in the South-West today.

This unofficial action – which is contrary to the advice of their union, SIPTU, took place at Limerick Depot, resulting in loss of some school transport services in parts of Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and South Galway and also the non-operation of some city services and Expressway services for a time early this morning.

Impact on Public Services

Limerick city bus services – due to commence operation at 07.00hrs this morning failed to operate but commenced at 08.15hrs. Expressway services to Galway, Cork and Dublin, due to depart Limerick at 07.30hrs were delayed until 08.15hrs.

Bus Éireann has been endeavouring to minimise the impact on customers by covering services where possible. As a result, City and Expressway services have been running largely as normal since 08.15hrs, despite the fact that some drivers continue to refuse to operate.

No further impact on city and expressway services is envisaged.

School Transport Services

In addition to the disruption to city and Expressway services, a number of school transport services operated by Part-time School bus drivers also failed to operate this morning. Areas affected were parts of Counties Clare, Limerick, North Tipperary and parts of South Co Galway.

These School transport services are unlikely to operate in the affected areas this afternoon.

Bus Éireann has been in contact with schools and VEC offices to advise them of the disruption. Parents in the areas affected are advised to make alternative arrangements and to contact the Bus Éireann School Transport Office in Limerick on 061 217445/6/7 for updates.

Bus Éireann Position

Bus Éireann has condemned the action which has adversely impacted on services to customers and schoolchildren.

A spokesperson said:

“This is a 100% unofficial action by a limited number of part time school bus drivers.

The action is contrary to the advice of their union SIPTU, who have given a number of instructions to them to work as normal.

The action is also in breach of all industrial relations procedures.

Furthermore, the issue at hand is being dealt with by the Labour Court and a hearing is scheduled for April 16th.

A proposal on the matter has already been tabled by the Labour Relations Commission which was recommended for acceptance by all parties and was due for ballot by members.

Part time drivers involved in this action are contravening the instructions of their Union and causing significant unnecessary disruption to customers and to families.

We are urging the drivers to return to work immediately, to co-operate with the instructions of their unions and to follow agreed industrial relations procedures

Me thinks Barry needs to take a leaf out of Erica's book and be up front and honest with the situation
