Default Sunday Rail Service on Kildare Line

I was in Heuston station tonight (8/12/2006). Plenty of announcements about cancelled late services on Saturday (9/12/2006) night re Kildare Route Project but not a single voice or written notification that I could see/hear re the Sunday Christmas service for Sunday (10/12/2006). One wonders if IE are hoping for a low up-take - then they can say that they put on a service but that there was no demand!

Not going to Pearse is extremelly foolish. They would probably get a far larger demand if they did.

Of course then they'd be fearful of people expecting this as a daily service.

I would imagine thats the plan. Blame the customers for a lack of demand.

I'll be on one of these trains on Sunday with full report for Kildare media.

P11 is solely responsible for the "forced" introduction of a Sunday service on this line and in particular the "shopping specials". Nobody else. The next stage is to get them routed to Pearse. It will happen.

The last commuter line without a Sunday service, takes its rightfull place "nearly". It aint over yet. Photos will appear online.

Shopping special, a year late. But thats IE for you.

Isn't it funny. Ireland is one of few cities in Europe where Sunday is a major day for retaillers. Somehow, the national rail company have failed to notice this when they have a densely populated line waiting to be used. Yet, they need this recommended to them.

The Kildare line is now a major commuter route for Dublin, the plan for the interconnector shows this, yet they are not given a Sunday service like people on other rail lines. Why?

Fare from Sallins to City Centre, normally a tenner return, Monday to Saturday. I wonder will the fare on Sunday be the same or will the traditional CIE/IE Sunday, "jack up the fare policy" apply?

Anyway, I'll travel tomorrow on the 13.08 ex Sallins and give everything a good look. Im curious about the advertising measures for this. Apart from the IE web site, its been pretty quiet down here.

Despite no advertising for this service, loadings at Sallins looked good today. The 14.40 arrival at Sallins from Heuston turned out 10 passengers (+ Mark Gleeson )

The 16.40 arrival from Heuston had 20+ disembark at Sallins.

This Sunday service will prove a winner when fully introduced.

Sallins station had no advertising at all. According to Mark, a leaflet was stuck in behind the route timetable in Heuston. At Hazelhatch a poster was displayed. Back in Sallins a poster explaining Timetable alterations today had been stuck up with sticky tape on the ticket office door. The wind and the rain got the better of it. How daft to expose an important announcement to the elements or vandals.

Mark took a photo and will make it available in due course.

And the fare is the same as the current Mon - Sat fare.

The only clear notice was in Hazelhatch where a printed sheet of A4 listing the trains was stuck over the timetable, that was behind a plastic sheet

The only notice in Sallins is the one Derek is holding http://forum.platform11.org/attachme...1&d=1165791214

Newbridge (yes I got there) had one notice stuck with tape hung over a advertisement, no notice in the booking office area

And of course to add insult, the 14:15 Heuston Newbridge has Kildare as destination front and back and inside the PIS called it as destination. The 16:15 Heuston Kildare had no PIS and no destination front and rear, http://forum.platform11.org/attachme...1&d=1165791214

add to that the fact that the sunday times are random,on balbriggan commuter, shops are 12-6,trains going to balbriggan are 5.10? and 740,they don't even cater for people who are working in shops!
