I took advantage of the train I managed to catch yesterday morning into Heuston to mention that if people wanted to have their say about rail transport issues they should take a look at Platform 11 as it is probably the largest 'megaphone' for rail users currently available. I am all for local groups of course to lobby for their own ends but the national agenda that is behind Platform 11 is what attracted me.

By the way there is a Portlaoise Rail Commuters Action Committee which I don't see any reason why they would not want to be part of the other local user groups listed here. Anyone know if they were interested in aligning with Platform 11 say through this message board?

I met with Myles McHugh along with the Portlaoise Rail Commuters Action group about the idea of a later train to Portlaoise at night . At the time he promised the service of a later train would be introduced for Portlaoise in September 2006. This would mean the 22:45 service to Kildare would go as far as Portlaoise.

He since changed his mind and said that December would be more likely as they need to train a new driver.

I would love to quote his email but somehow am restraining myself!

I have emailed him recently for an update but have received no response.

You know if you wait till mid 2007 you will get heaps of trains at night as the main depot is moving there, no need to annoy Myles as it will happen by default. He will then claim it was his great forward thinking idea

Its not simple and they need a Port Laois based driver for the service, and its takes 70+ weeks to train a driver so you will be lucky to see it for 2007 timetable. They where doing this anyway

We got the same story about Sunday services at Christmas, yes thinking about it, then it was dragged out and died, it is the way of things

And get it in writting always its really really handy

That is the most beautiful line ever quoted on this board!! You can see an era ending, sad resignation.

Yeah doesn't commit to anything does it

What you want is a formal written agreement that says they will provide without condition

A lot of promises have been made before, like Kildare Spencer Dock, the CEO said that before a joint oireachtas committee and in documents submitted to the DoT.
