Question About Bicycles

Hi everyone:
I write you from Asturias (Celtic Country) - Spain,

My wife and I are planning a cycle-route from Westport to Cork;

To start it, we would like to take a train from Dublin to Westport (1st Jun), but I see that actually this line is not available to carry bicycles.

Am I right?...I've sent this question to IrishRail, but I haven't receive any answer.

Tnx in advance.
Lluis

Details of bike carriage is here http://www.railusers.ie/passenger_info/bikes.php

There is always space for at least 1 bike, there is meant to be 2 and in some cases 4 spaces.

You can't book a space in advance, that said demand is very low so you would be very unlucky to be left behind.

Hi Mark:
thank you for your response;

I find a little bit confused all the info about bike+train on irishrail....It seems to be similar to Spain...

You say that "always" there is a space for 1 bicycle, or even 2, but the line Dublin-Westport is not on the Services that allow bicycles......
http://www.railusers.ie/passenger_info/bikes.php

What does your "always" mean?....On "every service", or on "every service listed"...??

TNX in advance

Dublin Mayo is the route in question

All services between Dublin and Mayo can carry a bike, the only question is how many. There should be two spaces

The only exception is the connecting service between Manualla Junction and Ballina which doesn't carry bikes which does not effect passengers destined for Westport

I've phoned to Huston, and they confirmed that there is no problem for two bikes at that service (Jun/1 8:20 from Huston to Westport).

Thank you very much , Mark!

Default the FitzGerald (himself)

Actually Irish Rail's cycle policy is a bloody scandal- the only railway in Europe now to charge for cycles -dirty money and one of the results of it being allowed to derogate! Won der what it took the presuade the ERC to allow this when it so blatantly proclaims the successa of its transport your bike police? And why are our EC reps and domestic politicicos and admins AND the sai-disant Greens (more like many shades of grey) doing about this hindrance to persuading people to but cycles go free in NI whether or not they are green!
